To be inspired...
Where do you find your inspiration? Is it someone you look up to? Maybe a celebrity or influencer you admire. Could it be from the show/movie you were obsessed with when you were younger?
Inspiration comes in different forms. Depending on who you are and what you're attracted to. In fashion, most importantly (for me at least) I find inspiration from everything around me. Whether it's nature, a random person I seen and loved their outfit, or even a barbie doll. Yes. I tend to grab A LOT of inspiration from barbie dolls. I've been obsessed with them when I was a little girl, and undeniably now that I'm 30, that obsession is still going strong.
I decided to utilise this post as one drawn from inspiration and how you can define your style based on what you love and what surrounds you. Although I tend to extract inspiration from EVERYWHERE, barbie fashion has always made me feel some kind of way.
Which is why I've accumulated 5 barbie-inspired modest picnic outfits, any hijabi girl can wear, feeling like a barbie herself!
1. Red Gingham Glamour Picnic Outfit
If you can't bring the blanket, be the blanket! Just kidding. But seriously, this red gingham maxi dress by Bernadette is gorgeous! Even if it's imitating a picnic blanket. Drawing inspiration from the barbie added in the frame, she's well and truly on the theme of red gingham, so I incorporated that look for this outfit. Adding a long sleeve blouse underneath with a larger collar adds an elegant touch to the dress. Pair with white heels and a gorgeous picnic style bag, and you have yourself a true form of a picnic outfit.
2. Dreamy in Denim Picnic Outfit
Denim. A staple piece for any wardrobe, that lasts seasons on end. The barbie in this frame happens to be wearing a darker wash denim jeans with a white top and red accessories. Similarly, I have styled a denim maxi skirt with a white blouse, red ballet flats and some picnic must-haves - a straw hat and bag. A touch of red lipstick will tie the look together! A dreamy look for your next picnic outing.
3. Whimsically White Picnic Outfit
A more neutral take for the girls who don't love too much colour! Beautiful shades of white, nude and black, keeping this look very crisp and chic. I feel wearing white against a luscious green backdrop makes such a statement, despite appearing more 'simple'. If you know how to play with your colours, you'll be able to pull anything off!
4. Bold blue picnic outfit
You're a neutral girl, vibrant girly, or potentially both. That's one of the reasons I love barbie fashion! Not necessarily the more 'recent' ones, but the older models were always dressed in timeless outfits, regardless of the colour. This dress specifically gives me Grace Kelly vibes in her elegant blue dress on 'To Catch A Thief'. Not the same dress, but the hue certainly does it for me. The pearl accents elevate the look, eluding a sense of femininity. When one thinks picnic, you think grace, elegance and chic. This picnic outfit is the epitome of perfect picnic look!
5. Your Yellow Highness picnic outfit
This is extra. I know! But how beautiful is this dress! This is one I would wear to a day picnic event, one that's more formal. You could also wear this is you were hosting your own day event and wanted to elude in glamour. The barbie in the frame is a little more casual, however I used the colours for inspiration and put together this ensemble. White blouse with the beautiful yellow tulle dress and of course a sun hat and rattan bag, and you'll be collecting jaws off the floor. This picnic outfit is truly magnificent and just oh so glamorous!
