It is sunnah to wear your best clothes in Eid...
In Islam, buying new clothes for Eid is a tradition for many Muslims and is considered a sign of respect and gratitude. According to this article, "The Muslim should dress for Eid in his best clothes, and go out to see his friends and visit his relatives looking and smelling good. This is something that is customary and well-known among people at all times, and this is their tradition; it is part of expressing joy and happiness on that day'.
How beautiful is our religion to ask of us to be dressed in our best clothing, smelling and looking good. This is not only on Eid. As Muslims, we must always be presented in the best possible manner. However Eid is such a special occasion, the requirement is to be dressed in new or special clothing.
This does not mean one MUST go out and buy something new if they can't. But wearing their best possible outfit is sunnah. As a Muslim woman who loves fashion, this is music to my ears. Any reason to buy new clothes becomes my mission. Searching high and low for the most unique and exquisite outfits.
Albeit, sometimes you try being prepared and searching for an outfit in advance. Only to lead you to more questions. How should you dress for Eid? What colour do you wear for Eid? Is it OK to wear black in Eid?
To help assist you with this never-ending cycle, I've curated a selection of 5 timeless Hijab Eid Outfit ensembles perfect for the demure woman. My exclusive selection of jewellery, handbags, and footwear options simplifies the styling process for you, making it effortless to find everything you'll need. You can now say good-bye to stress and anxiety, and welcome confidence with style.
1. Eid outfits: Maxi Dress
As Eid Al-Adha coincides with winter in Australia, opting for deeper tones and thicker layers is synonymous with the season. I've put together a look with the Norma Kamali rich, chocolate brown maxi dress. Paired beautifully with the suede Scarosso pumps and a leather beige Dior handbag, you'll have their jaws dropping. Playing around the textures is crucial if you're sticking to the same colour hue to give the outfit the respect it deserves.
2. Eid outfits: Silk Maxi skirt
This ensemble consists of an all skirt main outfit. A pussy bow blouse and maxi skirt from Lilysilk. Starting off with a monochromatic centre allows for leeway in choosing what colour you want to pair the outfit with. A deeper red longline blazer with beautiful gold hardware from Goelia and a croc print handbag from Aspinal of London are the additions you never knew you needed. Oozing in luxury, I completed this look with a pair of embellished gold heels from D&G, and of course gold accessories to tie the look together. I originally opted for a deeper brown hijab, which you can definitely do, however I didn't want to hide the deep, rich red tones, thus decided to go with a pale hijab tone.
3. Eid outfits: Tulle
Love the femininity and grace of a tulle skirt. It truly elevates an outfit if you feel like it's looking a bit dull or boring. Pairing it with a blazer and belt gives a Dior classic look, oozing with timelessness. Of course, you can't go wrong with a statement Burberry scarf to tie the look together. Add your knee high leather boots, and you've got yourself an elegant Eid ensemble.
4. Eid outfits: Leather
Leather = Winter. It just is what it is. It's the only time during the year that I found myself reaching for my leather coats or skirts. And what better time to incorporate a maxi leather skirt from Norma Kamali than this Eid Al-Adha. Styled with a Sass&Bide plaid blazer and a pop of bordeaux heels and handbag, you have yourself one fierce outfit ready to knock them all out the park. Don't forget to wear your leather gloves and throw on them diamonds. Chef's kiss. If I do say so myself.
5. Eid outfits: Porsche Green
There's something about deep green tones that compliment the winter. Although it's a colour that can be worn anytime throughout the year, it just hits different in the cooler seasons. I've curated this look with a Lilysilk maxi skirt, leather knee-high boots and a Celine black leather handbag. The gold accents through the blazer and belt amplify this ensemble giving it a luxe feel. Definitely a showstopper you wouldn't want to pass on this Eid.
How should you dress for Eid?
A common question amongst many, How should I dress for Eid? What's appropriate? What's not? The list is endless. To sum it up for you, as mentioned above, wearing new or special clothes for Eid is a sunnah and is preferred. How one should dress generally speaking depends on your style and what you like.
In Islam, we have a certain dress guideline we should follow. For women, it is best to wear loose garments covering from head to toe, only showing hands and face. Living in the west, it can be a little difficult to stick to this criteria, therefore women try their best to cover as per the guideline.
This blog post gives you inspiration with modest and fully covered outfits. Although it is not a abaya or kaftan (which is something you can definitely wear), they are just here to give you some guidance on options available to you.
Wearing maxi dresses, maxi skirts, even loose (almost skirt like) pants can be worn. Anything that doesn't accentuate the physique entirely. This means wearing clothes loose enough to not show a Muslim woman's 'assets'. You know what I mean...
Nonetheless, wearing clothes best suited to your style is key. Stick to what you love and what makes you feel the most confident. Whether it's a smart casual vibe, overly formal or somewhere in the middle, it's all acceptable.
What colours to wear on Eid?
This is going to vary across the globe. For some, Eid may be during winter, others during summer. As someone who loves to dress according to the season, I would say stick to tones best suited for your season. If it's spring, opt for pastel or florals, summer is known for it's bright and dazzling tones whereas autumn and winter are more deep and muted. Since Eid in Australia will fall in June, it will be the beginning of winter. The tones I've used in the above images are aligned with deep gem coloured tones such as ruby, emerald, topaz, greys and browns. Neutral tones such as pearl or black are also used and I believe very versatile throughout the year.
