The holy month of Ramadan is near. Insha'Allah we're given the opportunity of spending our time to reflect, strengthen our faith and work on becoming better Muslims. I've spoken a lot on this topic, you can check out my article about How To Be A Better Muslim This Ramdan here.
Although it isn’t essential, adorning our homes in Ramadan decor creates a spiritual energy encapsulating the aura of this blessed month. It also acts as an indicator for ourselves first and our children that this is a very important month for Muslims all around the world.
By enriching our homes with knowledge of our religion and this very special month, allows for us and our families to not only feel a sense of joy and love for the beautiful month of Ramadan, but to understand it's impact in our lives.
As fashion and style differs from one person to another, so does your taste in your home and decor. According to what you like and what grasps your attention, is how you would decorate your home. Some may find inspiration from Pinterest (aka me), others decorate how their mum would before they had their own place, and some just don't do it all.
When I was a young child, I would get excited when my mum would put up Ramadan or Eid decorations as it gave me a sense of excitement and anticipation for the month ahead. Why should that change? After becoming a mother, I wanted to keep that tradition going for my child and any future children.
Do this for them, even if you don't see any 'reason' for it. It makes them feel like 'we too have something to look forward to yearly', rather than them noticing the Christmas decorations that we all secretly love.
Without keeping you for too long, here are a list of images you can refer to when coming to decorate your home for Ramadan or Eid this year. I've listed images from recent years to show different styles or options you can apply and recreate in your own home.
For my bar cart, I've added a glass drink dispenser and filled it up with water along with 2 glass cups, ready for use during suhoor. There is also a gold crescent shaped stand that I've filled with dates. Additionally, I've added a Quran to remind me to read and a bakhoor incense burner for decor.
Another option for the bar cart is to add a crescent with a hanging start that lights up. It definitely illuminates that area and stands out the most when people first walk in to your home.
My coffee table includes 2 half cylinder shaped trays along with a star shaped candle holder and a camel. Regarding the camel, I've heard they're not appropriate to showcase as decor, so i ended up removing it. However, that's up to you to do your research if its appropriate or not.
My buffet table is the backdrop of my living room, therefore I styled it to be the focal point of that room without too much clutter. I've placed 2 glittered birch trees that light up and adorned them with crystal hanging ornaments (I purchased these during the Christmas season) and a glittered crescent. Of course, anything that glitters is a must. The centrepiece is a vintage-inspired item I already have as part of my decor, however added similar coloured flowers to suit the Ramadan theme.
Here, I've added a leaves garland intertwined with the moroccan lights as shown above. I've also added a crescent to the centre of that light garland to creare a more Ramadan inspired atmosphere. You can see the difference between the 2 images, one is a lot more 'simpler' compared to the second image. It's all about preference and what you like.
I purchased this birch light up tree from eBay a couple years ago. I love using it for height, as it is quite tall when placed on a table or stand. It gives the room a cozy and warm feel. I've also added the crystal hanging ornaments here to make it look a little more luxurious. This tree is placed on my kitchen bench, tying up the Ramadan decorations in the living room and kitchen.
These moroccan inspired lantern lights are everything! I bought so many of these to put around the house. I placed them on the stairway railing (as shown above), on top of my kitchen and living room windows and door, as well as the mirror on the buffet (also shown above). Instead of adding typical fairy lights, I thought these gave a nice Ramadan/Eid inspired decoration twist. I also added more of the leaves garland to intertwine around the lantern lights.
For the corner table, I've placed 2 different sized lanterns in a cream/ivory shade. Inside, I've added pearl string lights to give them a subtle enhancement. I've also placed a candle and diffuser to tie the look together.
This setup gives a little more luxe feel to it. I removed all the extras in the top image and placed a gold vase of red roses. The pearl lights are illuminated in the lanterns giving a moody ambiance to the home.
As you can see in the images, I opted for a luxurious ambiance to your normal Ramadan decoration ideas you may see elsewhere. I've Pinterested my way into inspiration and went with a gold and white theme throughout.
When styling your home for Ramadan, pick a theme you'd like to replicate throughout your home ensuring the colours are cohesive and the decor items complete as a set. If you have silver decor, stick to the silver theme along with a colour that compliments that shade.
You can also notice I've used a lot of crystals and crescents as my main accents to bring in the main decor pieces together. Stars are also very common to use in Ramadan, however crystals were my subtle twist to creating a more luxury inspired ambiance in my home.
I hope this has brought you some inspiration to your Ramadan decoration this year.
