The ‘fluffy or natural’ brow started back in the 1980’s, where the look of a more natural or grown out brow was the trend. 40 years later, and here we are back again with the natural however still defined brow.
Even though the brows of the 80’s were considered to be ‘bushy’, the 2020’s are all about a full fluffy brow that is thick yet defined. From then, Russia introduced brow lamination and has since become a popular beauty service worldwide.
Thanks to TikTok and most of the other social media platforms, achieving a laminated brow look without the $$$ has become quite the trend. A vast range of products can be used to achieve the look, however I will break down the steps and products you can use to achieve the infamous ‘Laminated Brows’ look.
The order you apply your makeup is subjective to every individual. Some may start with the face, others the eyes, and some even the lips. However, in order to achieve the perfect laminated brows, you want to start with your eyebrows first to avoid ruining the rest of your makeup.
Without further ado, here is the list if steps you need to take to achieve laminated brows on a budget. If you're not a reader,

1. Starting with your eyebrows, ensure you have cleansed your face and prepped for makeup. I like to apply a moisturiser during this time. This allows it to set into your skin by the time you apply your face makeup. Using the disposable mascara wand, brush your eyebrows to ensure they are in place.
2. Roll the same disposable mascara wand over the gel surface of your brow gel. In this instance, I like to use the Anastasia Brow Freeze product. You may use any gel product you are comfortable using. I’ve seen many reviews of people using ‘pear soap’ as a cheaper alternative and works just as well.
3. You want to ensure there’s a generous amount of gel on the wand. The product does ‘set’ once its dried, hence we need the brows to stay put throughout the day. Once you have product on your wand, work the gel really well into your brows ensuring you get enough product to reach the skin beneath your brows. This process is the ‘laminating’ part of your eyebrows so you want to make sure you get as much product in there to hold that shape down.
4. After you are happy with the way your brows are looking, using a flat tool (I used a makeup spatula), press down on your eyebrows. This will ensure there are no stray hairs and keep the brows in place. Wait 5-10 minutes for the gel to dry.
5. Before you apply your concealer, use a makeup pad to remove any excess gel around your eyebrows. This step is crucial. Sometimes the gel can dry and cause your makeup to look flaky if it isn’t removed.
6. Now that you have officially ‘laminated’ your eyebrows, use a flat concealer brush and your favourite concealer to carve out the shape of your new brow. I like using the Huda Beauty Concealer or Too Faced Concealer.
7. Using a soft blending brush, blend the concealer into your skin ensuring their are no harsh lines.
8. This step is optional, but if you have stray eyebrow hairs, this would be the time to pluck them out. Your eyebrows may be looking almost ready. However, you need to fill them in to look as natural as possible. I like to use the Anastasia DipBrow Pomade in Medium Brown.
9. With a very minimal amount of product, using the angled eyebrow brush, gently start to fill in sparse areas of your eyebrows. You want to be using soft and stroke-like motions to avoid harshly filling them in.
10. Lastly, add some highlighter or brighter shadow to enhance your brow bone.
11. Voila. You have beautiful laminated, fluffy brows.
