The significance of a woman's winter shoe...

As the seasons change, so do our wardrobes. All the lightweight linen dresses get swapped for knitwear and coats. Sandals get put away to make room for boots. Scarves, gloves and fur hats make a show stopping appearance.

It’s official.

Winter is here.

It’s been a while now that I’ve been curating a capsule wardrobe, focusing on a classic, timeless and elegant style. Sprinkled in with a little glamour. Of course, the summer wardrobe gets put away to make room for the winter wardrobe.

One, I find it much easier to access the appropriate attire for the coinciding weather.
Two, you don’t feel like your wasting time shuffling through pieces you know you won’t wear in several months.
And three, by the time the new season comes around, you’ll feel as though you bought an entirely new wardrobe.

Honestly, sometimes you forget what you bought and the moment you see it there, it’s like Eid. The sparkle in your eyes is undeniable as you think of all the new outfits you want to style. And who doesn’t love a new wardrobe? Even though it technically isn’t. It’s still a win-win.

Nonetheless, since winter is creeping up on us here in Australia, it’s inevitable to start reaching out for the outfits that’ll keep us most warm. And what pairs better with a faux fur coat than brand new winter boots? Or the mules you bought to wear with your sweater. Whatever the outfit, you need the appropriate shoes.

Hence, why I’ve curated a list of old money women's winter shoes you need in your wardrobe!

1. Boots

Honestly, boots were designed for the winter. Women's winter shoes cannot exist without boots being in the mix. Whether they’re knee-high, midi, ankle or rain boots. They’re a must.

To achieve Camila Coehlo's look, pair them with a maxi skirt and sweater, while keeping the tones neutral. I've listed a few options you can choose from, or simply use as inspiration for what suits your style best.

2. Flats

For every winter shoe collection, you can’t forget the flats. They’re necessary when you don’t feel like wearing heels (rare but true), running errands or wanting to achieve a classy yet comfortable look. Milda Gud portrays the perfect example of timeless and elegant. Take a look at how she styles flats with her casual autumn looks.

3. Heels

My absolute favourite. I will wear them anywhere, anytime, any place. They accentuate your body, lifting you gracefully as your posture elegantly strides as you walk. In English, they elevate absolutely any look. Or so I believe. I’ve been loving block heels lately. I feel like they still give a casual feel but with oomph. That extra sparkle. The glow of the outfit. You need heels. Period. P.S. how beautifully does Mary style them for her classic Coachella outfit?

4. Sneakers

In contrast to heels, sneakers aren’t my strong suit. I don’t wear them much. However, I believe they are an essential in your winter shoe collection as they do come in handy quite often. Still, try to keep them minimal, elegant and stylish. Something to pair with any outfit without thinking twice about the colours, etc. Take a look at how Marta (@szewczix) styles sneakers in her posts.

5. Slippers

Essential. Obviously. Sometimes were so concerned with curating the perfect wardrobe for leaving the house, without acknowledging the necessities at home. Slippers are very much an important part of the winter shoe collection. Especially cute ones. Embellished, fur, velvet, you see where I’m going. Think Old Hollywood glamour. Gorgeous. Looking and feeling beautiful is just as important at home as it is when going out. Don't forget that.
