Oh, the love story awaits…
There’s nothing more exciting than anticipating a beach weekend getaway after a busy month/year. Whether it's your kids nagging at your every beck and call, house duties, work or life just getting in the way, you need something to keep you going. We can't all work 24/7 without a little petrol to fill up our engines. You work so tirelessly, but the only thing keeping you going is the idea that a holiday is approaching. Even if it’s for a few days, it’s a much deserved break! Therefore, I’ve curated the best packing list every hijabi needs for a beach weekend getaway, so you don’t have to.
Now all you gotta do, is pack. 😉
List of what you need to pack:
Hijab Essentials
Controversially, being a hijabi is a lot more high maintenance than any other woman packing for a beach weekend getaway. Not because of superiority or snobbish reasons (relax). But because we have to think twice and thrice ensuring we’ve packed EVERYTHING! From our hijabs, to head caps to body tops. If you miss one. There goes that outfit you had planned.
So being strategic and preparing your list in advance is crucial. Even if that means laying out your clothes entirely before actually packing them. To avoid incomplete outfits, or getting waves of anxiety if something is missing, here is what you need for your hijabi essentials:
- Pack a few different coloured hijabs matching with your prepared outfits. You can do this a couple days in advance while packing to ensure you bring the EXACT amount of hijabs you need so you don’t over/under pack. Also, remember to bring an extra hijab or your specific swimming one, along with an extra cap.
- Bring the head caps you’ll be wearing with the hijab, along with some pins you usually use packed in a small container so you don’t lose them. Neatly fold them all and place in a small travel bag to ensure they’re all together and not scattered randomly in the bag.
- Don’t forget to pack your prayer clothes. I bought a prayer clothes travel set that comes in a mini bag along with a small prayer mat. Very convenient so you don’t forget to pray whilst travelling.
- Hair straightener! This isn’t for your hair 🙂 as much as it is for your hijab. Nothing is worse than having a crinkled hijab. Especially when on holidays. We love to take our pics. Make them worth it.
Clothes
It’s always a mission to figure out what you want to wear when travelling. Even if it’s just for a few days. The pressure of not under/overpacking and ensuring you have an outfit for every day and activity can be overwhelming. Best thing to do is ‘preplan’ these outfits while packing. Take a photo/video of the outfit you want to wear and note down where or when you want to wear it. It helps keep you organised and minimises the chances of overpacking.
- For my hijabi girls, packing a long-sleeve maxi dress is essential. Always. They’re lightweight, easy to wear and don’t require many layers.
- Maxi skirts paired with long sleeve tops are a great outfit combination as they mimic the idea of wearing a maxi dress, and allow you to mix and match without packing too many options. You also get to choose what colours you want to pair, creating gorgeous ensembles.
- A coord set is probably the best thing any hijabi could pack on holidays. It’s the best thing anyone can own really. They’re easy to put together, require minimal effort, yet still look very chic. You can dress it up or down depending on the activity, just swap your flats to heels and voilà .
- Don’t forget your swimming clothes. Swimming is the main activity for a beach weekend getaway and you don’t want to miss out on all the fun. If you wear shorts with a long sleeve top, don’t forget your tights!
Under-Wear (the clothes you need UNDER your clothing)
- Loungewear. You think you may not need this. But believe me. When you want to be comfortable, you're hot and tired. The last thing you want to do is get dressed up. So pack 1 set.
- Nightwear. Pack something lightweight, like a satin nightie or a matching silk set. I would go with two options, if it’s a 2/3 night stay. Depending on how hot it is. Otherwise the one you love most is plenty. Also, don't forget your underwear. Pack a set per night, include your swim set for the swimming part.
- Underwear, obviously. Pack a set for each night, and one extra underwear.
- Lastly, tights and body tops are a crucial requirement. Any hijabi understands, you can’t travel without them. You don’t know the circumstances, and also most outfits require them to be worn underneath to prevent your skin from showing.

Footwear
Shoes make or break an outfit. Therefore, it's crucial you pack strategically. My blog post, The Ultimate Guide of Summer Shoes can give you an insight on some classy options you can pack with you. The list is as follows:
- Slides (for the pools).
- Flat Sandals (for daily wear).
- Heels (of course).
- Low Heels (to look casual but boujee at the same time).
- Espadrilles/Sneakers (for any ‘sport’ related activities).
Again, make sure you try on your outfits before packing to know exactly what you need. You could probably match all outfits with one or two pairs of shoes. Either way, work with what you have and what works for you.
Accessories
Accessories are the ‘cherry on top’ for any outfit. They can take an outfit from blazé to elegant. Being a hijabi, utilising this appropriately is key for any chic outfit. These include:
- Hats! Yes, we can wear hats with the hijab. Some people don’t know how to make it work. But don’t worry. You can check out my blog post Elegant Ways To Style Modest Beach Outfits for inspiration. Just make sure you pack the one or two you really need for your fits over the few days you’ll be away.
- A handbag. Obviously. You can pack one or two depending on the outfits. Maybe consider packing a beach bag and a more formal clutch for dinner dates. Consider your activities and pack accordingly.
- Don’t forget your sunnies! You can pack a variety to go with different outfits, however if you’re a light packer, bring your favourite one.
- Jewellery depends on the outfits. I would go with classic, timeless pieces that match well with all outfits. Maybe you can add/layer differently to give it a unique look. I like to wear my main jewellery for the drive, and pack additions like a watch or a long necklace for more formal outfits.
- Belts are optional. Obviously if your outfit doesn't need it, you can skip. But always good to remember. It's usually the 'insignificant' pieces that are forgotten, however they truly are significant when that outfit is put together.
- Lastly, packing a silk scarf is great to pair with your handbag, hat or just an add on to your outfit. They’re so versatile and add an elegant touch to any look.

Beauty
Now this section for me at least, is the most crucial to bring depending on what I plan to do that weekend. Keeping your skin healthy and glowy while looking presentable should be an essential part of your daily routine. If you’d like to check out what I use to keep that skin looking glowy, check out my post on Glowy Skin.
You can also check out a more detailed version of what to pack in my Beauty Summer Essentials post, however if you like to keep it simple, then this is all you need:
- Lightweight Foundation (only pack if you REALLY need it. otherwise a concealer will do).
- Light Powder (if you prefer it, otherwise it's optional).
- Concealer (choose your fave lightweight concealer. I would suggest the Maybelline Anti Ageing concealer).
- Cream Blush/Bronzer (Westman Atelier has a beautiful consistency for either product).
- Lip Liner (I've been LOVING the Charlotte Tilbury lip pencil in Pillowtalk Medium. Lasts ALL day!)
- Lip Gloss (your fave/preferred one).
- Mascara (this is only necessary for night looks, otherwise you can swap for lashes or nothing at all).
- Mini Makeup Wipes (SO important for removing that excess makeup).
- Perfume (don't forget your fave summer scent).
- Deodorant (essential. very, very important).
Skincare
Sometimes we forget to pack these considering we have full sized products and don't want to carry too much with us. But keeping your skin in check ESPECIALLY during a trip is so important. You can also almost always buy them in travel sizes, or just fill them in travel sized bottles to bring with you on your beach weekend getaway, or any trip you take.
- Your fave sunscreen (I recommend the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun, Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ PA++++)
- Face Cleanser (I use the d'Alba face wash and I absolutely love)
- Face Oil (this one is a little extra, but I love doing my facial massages in the morning and this product is a requirement).
- Toner (if you want a nice glow, highly recommend the d;Alba face toner)
- Eye Cream (Ole Henrikson brightening eye cream)
- Moisturiser (my fave is the Weleda Skin Food Light)
- Lip Balm (Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask works a dream)
- Face Mist (Caudalie Grape Water or d'Alba Rose Serum Spray)
- Cotton Pads (to remove makeup, apply skincare or whatever necessary).
- Ear Buds
- Sleep Eye Mask
Toiletries
Pre packing these becomes so easy for future weekend trips. You can just leave them in your travel organisers and once you come to leave, ensure everything inside pis fully stocked or replenished. Also, many of these items come in travel sizes, otherwise purchasing travel sized bottles/compartments makes it so much easier than packing a full sized product. Ensure you have those ready to fill any necessary product.
- Shampoo/Conditioner
- Body Wash
- Loofah
- Toothbrush + Cover
- Tooth Paste
- Tooth Floss
- Mouthwash
- Body Moisturiser/Butter
- Body Shimmer (optional)
- Body mist
- Panty Liners/Pads (you can never be too safe)
- Shaver (incase of emergencies)
Hair Products
I keep a haircare products bag separate from any other bag and use it only when travelling. This makes packing so much easier so future holidays wont require much time or thought in the packing process. For beach weekend getaways, you want to keep your hair moisturised due to salt water as well as being in a hijab all the time. Therefore, you'll need as follows:
- Hair Brush
- Hair Ties (keeping spares is necessary if you snap or lose one).
- Hairspray (required for hijabis if you want to keep that hair slick back).
- Hair Oil (beach weekend getaways always require that extra moisture).
- Silk Bonnet (for sleep)
- Disposable Lash Wand (to keep fly aways or baby hairs in place)
Electronics
This section is probably the most important as our electronics are what we depend on, sadly. Not only are they necessary for a beach weekend getaway, but any short holiday you plan on taking throughout the year. We always manage to forget at least one of the items, so tick these off as you pack:
- Phone
- Phone Charger
- Laptop (if you need it).
- Laptop charger
- iPad (also if you need it - having a kid, it’s crucial to bring along).
- iPad charger
- Camera (if you have one).
- Camera charger
- Mini speaker (they come in so handy when you want to play some music for the family and have a small party, vibes.) These usually come with a charger cord. Make sure to bring it along.
- Air Blower for your pool inflatables (this applies only if you’re bringing pool inflatables with you).
- AirPods
- Portable Steamer/Iron(so useful for steaming clothes or hijab if wrinkly).
Emergency Travel Kit
I threw this one because it's good to have no matter where you are or where you go. Keep these packed in a separate bag for emergencies. You can gain access to it from your handbag, car or luggage bags. Feel free to add or remove items that you feel you use more/less of.
- First Aid Kit
- Gum
- Nail Clippers
- Nail File
- Cuticle Oil
- Hand Cream
- Sewing Kit (incase something rips/snaps).
- Flashlight (believe, you may need this some day).
- Tissues (keep the mini packs).
- AA & AAA Batteries (just a couple of each will do).
- Bandaids
- Hand Sanitiser
- Medicine (any you think you may use like panadol/neurofen).
- Plastic bags (incase of storing wet clothes, vomiting, etc).
Extras
This section depends on what you may or may not need as extras, along with your interests. I like to organise my outfits and necessities first. And depending on what I plan to do for the few days away, I like to pack accordingly. These aren't necessary on everyone's list. These are just options for you to consider while packing for your beach weekend getaway.
- Pool Inflatables
- You can pack some extra towels/beach towels.
- Pillowcase or blankets if you feel you can’t use the ones in the hotel/suite you’ll be staying in.
- Packing a good book to read is always nice and so relaxing.
- Camera/Phone tripod if you plan on taking some content and don't want to rely on anyone.
- Activities for your kids (if you have any).
- Props if you plan on taking content (e.g. picnic basket for a photoshoot at the beach).
- Beach Essentials (check out my blog post Must-Have Beach Essentials for more inspiration).
- Selfie Light (you just don't know when you'll need it).
- A good summer mix playlist.
Remember, the most important part of travelling is to go with the flow. A beach weekend getaway is one place of many that are taken to immerse yourself in peace, tranquility and relaxation. Remember to utilise that time efficiently, even if that means just sitting by the beach and drinking mocktails. So many ‘obstacles’ tend to happen, naturally, however getting through them with the least amount of worry is what will save you from those wrinkles. Just enjoy yourself and have fun.
And always stay glamorous.
